Saturday is our busiest day at the shop, and it's the day the school puts every event

rose_fern_8903

Sports day, the class 4 play, the parents' workshop, the science fair. All Saturdays this year. We run a family shop and Saturday brings in a big share of the month's sales. Between us we've missed three of the four, and my daughter has started saying 'it's fine' in that voice. How do other parents with weekend-heavy work handle this? Close for the morning, take turns, or ask the school for the year's dates early?

no school events for us yet, ours is a baby. but my parents ran a pharmacy and missed most of mine. the one i remember is my dad turning up at a sports day still in his shop apron because he'd left mid-rush. i was thrilled, not embarrassed

The early-dates route has worked for us around my travel. At the start of each term I ask which Saturdays are confirmed and block them like client meetings. It doesn't catch everything, but we went from missing most things to missing one or two. That 'it's fine' voice is so familiar ❤️

the calendar changing is the real problem. we closed the shop for the morning on saturday for her play, first time in years. sales were down and she was over the moon, so i'm calling it even
