Partner on a career break won't spend from our joint account on anything personal. How do other couples handle this?
Since my partner stepped back from work last year to be at home with the girls, the house runs on my salary. We've always had one joint account, and it has never been 'mine' and 'yours'. But I've noticed my partner has stopped buying anything personal from it. No new books, a gym membership quietly cancelled, a message to me before buying a shirt. When I bring it up, the answer is 'it's fine, we're on one income now'. It isn't fine with me. What happens at home all day is work, and I don't want anyone in this house to feel they need permission. For couples where one person has been home for a while: did you set aside a personal amount each month for both of you? Or did something else help more? ❤️
