Overnight train to Bhubaneswar with a 2 year old. Which food holds up?

lagoon_wave_2896

We're going to my parents' for ten days, by train because my partner wants her to 'see the country' and I lost that argument. It's well over a day door to door. She's at the stage where she eats properly only at home, with her own plate. I'm planning for two lunches and a dinner on board. What lasts that long without a fridge and doesn't turn into a sticky mess? And did yours eat anything from the pantry car, or is that wishful thinking?

We did Hyderabad to Vizag overnight when our son was about 2. Idlis travelled best, plain, wrapped in a cloth not foil. Curd rice was fine at dinner and sour by morning, so only pack it for the first meal. Fruit he could hold, a box of murmura, and cheese slices for when nothing else worked. He ate exactly one thing from the pantry car, the bread from an omelette, and only because the uncle on the next berth was eating it too.
