Our summer nanny wants full days, and with school back we only need 3 to 7

Akka looked after both kids through the holidays and they adore her. Now school's open, the van drops them at 3.30 and we're both home by 7, so we need her for four hours, not ten. She's told us politely that half-day work doesn't make sense for her and she may take a full-time job elsewhere. Don't want to lose her. Has anyone kept a good person on a short afternoon slot? What made it work?

Afternoon-only slots are hard to fill for exactly that reason. What kept ours, years ago, was a fixed monthly amount rather than hourly, paid in holiday weeks too, so her income was steady. Also worth asking whether she could combine it with morning work nearby. Then your four hours fit around her day instead of against it.

Spoke to her yesterday. She's found a cooking job two lanes away in the mornings, so our 3 to 7 fits if we keep it a fixed monthly amount. Sorted for now 🙂 Thanks for the nudge to just ask her.
