Our daughter has started tutoring and wants to pay one of the household bills

She's 20, in college and living at home. Since January she has been teaching maths to two school kids on weekends. Last night she said she'd like to pay the internet bill every month from now on. I wasn't prepared for how that would feel. Part of me is proud. Part of me wants to say no, keep it, it's your first money. My partner thinks we should simply say thank you. I've changed my mind about four times since.

Say thank you and take it. Refusing tells her it doesn't count. My son is 15 and wanted to pay for something out of his quiz prize money. I let him pay for one dinner and he talked about it for weeks.

that's more or less what my partner said. the 'doesn't count' part is what i hadn't thought about.

Agree with taking it. My elder is 16 and already asks what he'll 'contribute' once he earns. I'd want him to feel it's wanted, not humoured.

told her at breakfast. she looked relieved more than anything. the internet bill is hers from june.

      Replying to @coral_sparrow_9924

Same view, though I'd keep the amount small and fixed so it doesn't creep up in a good month. Our daughter's still at school, so this is me planning ahead.
