Our 3 month old cries from 6 to 9 every evening, and my mother wants the drishti ritual done daily

velvet_tiffin_4897

Every evening he is fed, changed, not too warm, and still cries for most of three hours. In the mornings he's a different baby. Our paediatrician saw him last week, said he is growing well and that evening fussiness at this age is common. My mother has a simpler explanation: too many visitors admiring him. She wants to do the chilli and salt ritual every evening. I'm not opposed to it, but I'm curious what other parents did, and whether anything other than time seemed to make a difference.

15 years on, I still don't know if it was the ritual or just the weeks passing. My mother did it every evening, our son grew out of the crying anyway, and both sides claimed credit 🤷

We did both. My mother did the ritual, and my partner and I took turns walking her up and down the corridor with the lights low. I can't tell you which helped. The crying eased after a few weeks either way. Is it the ritual itself that bothers you, or the idea that it replaces everything else?

Mostly the second, yes. And the smoke from burning chillies in a closed flat with a small baby. I don't mind the ritual, I just don't want us to stop trying other things because of it.

      Replying to @velvet_tiffin_4897

My atte did it for my son at the main door with the door open, never inside. Ask her to do it there. Most grandmothers agree to that without a fight.

Paati did it for ours every evening for a month. The crying stopped around when she discovered her own hands. I've decided not to have an opinion.
