nanny comes back after six weeks off. will an 8 month old even remember her

cobalt_trail_9136

i teach, so i've had her home all summer and the nanny took the break to go to her village. she starts again on monday, which gives them a few days together before i'm back at school. the baby has had only me all day every day for six weeks. does a baby this age remember someone after that long

When my daughter was about that age our caregiver went home for a month. The first morning back my daughter looked at her for a long time and then wanted me. By the afternoon she was fine with her, and by the end of the week it was as if she had never been away. Those few days of overlap are a good idea. Will you be in the house while the nanny does the usual things, or out?

    • That matches what I'd expect. Around eight or nine months many babies become wary of anyone who isn't their main person, so some protest is likely even with a familiar face, and it doesn't mean she has forgotten her. In the overlap days, letting the nanny do the feeds and baths while you stay nearby tends to help more than you holding her through every handover.

we have a 5 month old who goes between my mother and a nanny. when the nanny was away ten days he was unsure of her for one morning, then fine. six weeks is longer but they seem to keep faces better than we expect

Our younger one's caregiver went for a family wedding for close to a month when she was around 10 months. Day one back she cried. Day three she cried when the caregiver LEFT. So be ready for the opposite problem
