MYP to IGCSE at the International School of Hyderabad. How hard is the switch for a 13 year old?

Our son is 13 and in the MYP at his current school, which suits him well enough. Two of his close friends are moving to ISH in Patancheru for the IGCSE years, and he has started asking whether he could too. I'm not against it, but I don't understand what the switch involves. MYP is project-heavy and the assessments are criteria-based; IGCSE, as far as I can tell, is exam-driven with a fixed syllabus. For anyone whose child moved from MYP into IGCSE at grade 9, at ISH or elsewhere: how hard was the first term, especially in maths and the sciences? The second question is the drive from Nanakramguda. I'm told the ORR makes it reasonable, but I would rather hear from someone who does it every day.

Can't help on MYP to IGCSE, we're CBSE. On the drive, I've done Puppalaguda to the Patancheru side on the ORR a few times for office work, around 7.45 in the morning. Smooth every time. Coming back around 4 or 5 was a different story 🙂 Also, friends moving is a big reason at 13. My babu is the same about class 8, every school he likes is the one his friends are looking at.
