My toddler lectures her soft toys with one finger raised. I teach for a living.

She lines them up on the sofa, raises one finger and talks at them in a firm voice for several minutes. Mostly nonsense, some Marathi, the occasional 'no no no'. If the rabbit falls over she waits for it to sit up again. My partner says I do the finger. I do not do the finger.

You do the finger. All teachers do the finger. My granddaughter used to scold her dolls in exactly her amma's voice. Children see everything.

It's 3 am and she's awake. Currently explaining something to her water bottle. Finger up.

On call, and this is the best thing I've read tonight. Mine did a stethoscope version at that age, listening to every chest in the house with a spoon.
