My daughter's friends come over twice a week now and clear out a week's snacks in an hour

Very happy she has a group, and I love that they choose our house. But khakhra, chakri, the fruit bowl, two packets of biscuits, all gone on Tuesday, and again on Friday. I work from home a couple of days and I'd rather they ate something proper than biscuits anyway. What do you keep or make for a hungry group of 12 and 13 year olds that's filling, not much work and doesn't cost a fortune twice a week? Especially things they can put together themselves ❤️

Our two are too small for friend gangs, but my mother's answer to every crowd of cousins was a big pot of boiled tapioca with a chilli chutney, or puffed rice mixed with onion and coconut. Cheap, filling, ten minutes. Kids ate it because there was nothing else.

Puffed rice with onion is exactly what my amma made when my friends came over. Borugulu, the cheapest snack in the house and nobody complained. Saving this for about twelve years from now 😄

      Replying to @mellow_bookmark_6287

It works with teenagers too, as long as they mix it themselves. My 14 year old and his friends set up a bhel station in the kitchen with whatever is around. The mess is considerable, but the snack cupboard survives the week.
