Moving from IB to a state board school for class 6. Vivekananda High School is on our road

linen_piano_7126

Our girl is in grade 5 at an IB school across town. The commute is close to an hour each way in the rains, and Vivekananda High School in Mehdipatnam is a short walk from home. We're thinking of class 6 there from next June. I don't want general reassurance that she'll adjust. Specific questions for anyone who has made a move like this, at this school or a similar State Board one: how hard was the jump in written work and exam format, and how did a child with no Telugu background manage the language? Parents whose children joined there in class 6 or 7: what was the first term like?

Not this school, but a colleague moved his son from an IB school to State Board in class 6 a couple of years ago. What surprised him was not the content, it was the volume: long written answers, definitions learnt exactly, timed papers. The boy knew the concepts and still lost marks for the first two terms. For Telugu he arranged a home tutor from the April before. Might be worth starting early if you go ahead.

we visited a couple of state board schools when my daughter was in class 4. both asked if she'd done any telugu and both suggested a written test before admission. ask them if they test class 6 joiners, and in which subjects
