Moving closer to my in-laws would mean Vikas High School in Santosh Nagar for class 7. Anyone moved a child for family reasons at 11?

My in-laws live in Santosh Nagar and they're slowing down, so my partner has started saying we should be closer to them by next June. Nothing is decided. It's a long way from Bachupally and I'm not sold. If it happens, our daughter would be going into class 7, and the school that keeps coming up near them is Vikas High School. She has had the same friends since UKG and she already knows something is being discussed, because she's started asking whether 'Ajji's side' has a good library. Has anyone moved a child at around 11 for a family reason rather than a school reason? How did they take it, and what would you do differently? And if anyone knows Vikas High itself, I'd love to hear what an ordinary day there is like.

I teach younger children, so this is a teacher's view rather than a parent's. The children I've seen settle best after a family move are the ones who were told the real reason early and given a couple of small choices in it, even just which bag or which route. The ones who struggle are usually the ones who found out last. One practical thing if it does happen: Vikas High is state board and she's coming from CBSE, so ask early how they help with the change in answer-writing and second language. That part catches children out more than new friends do.

Before the school question, is moving the only way? We went round the same conversation about my mother-in-law a couple of years ago and settled on weekends plus one weekday evening. It isn't perfect, but nobody had to change schools. Santosh Nagar to Bachupally is a big ask, but so is uprooting a girl in class 7.

Weekends plus one evening sounds tidy until it's every weekend. Ask whoever will be doing the driving.

The driver would be me, which is partly why I'm up writing this at 2 am. Thank you all. The 'found out last' point stings a bit, since she's clearly already half-heard it. I'll keep the weekend idea in my back pocket for the next round with my partner.
