Mother-in-law wants our 4 month old's head shaved so the hair 'comes back thick'

Third time she's raised it this week. Mundan before the monsoon, 'so it grows thick and the heat rash stops'. My daughter already has a decent amount of hair, and the heat rash is on her neck, nowhere near her head. I'm not against a mundan at some point. I just don't buy the thick hair part, and four months feels early. When did your families do it, and did anyone see a difference in the hair afterwards? I'd like something better to say than 'I read online' 😅

We did our daughter's first haircut at the temple when she was around one, because that's when the elders wanted it. Her hair came back exactly the same as before, which is to say like mine 😄 My amma swore it was thicker. Nobody else could see it.

ours was the same. my son's came back the same curls, just shorter for a while. the only thing that changed was people stopped mistaking him for a girl, which i think bothered my mother more than the hair did

Ha. My MIL's other worry is the reverse, that with a shaved head nobody will be able to tell she's a girl. And she still wants it done. I don't think logic is the point here.

we're getting the same pressure at 2 months, from both sides. reading this after a 5 am feed and feeling a bit less alone

Was one year a family custom or just when it worked out? Our relatives all had different ages in mind, and we ended up going by when the weather was cooler.
