Her friends are all watching a show rated 16+. She's 12

Every girl in her group is apparently watching the same series. It's rated 16+ on the app. My daughter says it's just school drama and she's the only one left out at lunch. I haven't seen it. My partner skimmed one episode and said it's mostly relationships and some swearing. No idea what comes later. Do you go by the rating, watch it first, or watch it with her? I don't want to be the reason she's left out, and I'm not keen on simply handing over the remote either.

I went through this with my brother last year. What decided it in our house was where he'd watch it. Our TV is in the living room, so the condition was that he watched it there, with anyone walking past. He lost interest by episode four once it wasn't a private thing. On a phone in her room is a different decision from on the family TV.

Living room only is a condition I can live with. She'll argue about the timing, but that's a smaller fight.

Watch the first two episodes with her. You'll learn more in ninety minutes than from any rating, and she sees you're taking her seriously.
