He wants sandwiches like his friends, not the dalma and rice I pack

My son is 10 and has suddenly asked for 'normal lunch'. Normal apparently means sandwiches, pasta or noodles, whatever the boys at his table bring. He says nobody teases him, he just doesn't want to be the only one opening a steel box of dalma. I don't want to make a big thing of it, but I also know a cheese sandwich at 11 won't hold him till pickup. Has anyone found a middle ground that still feels like home food but looks less different? He does like parathas, so maybe that's a start.

This was me in school, with luchi and alur dom while everyone else had bread jam. I wanted bread so badly. Now I'd give anything for my ma's tiffin 😊 Maybe let him have the sandwich some days and he'll come back to dalma on his own.

Is the concern mainly that it looks different, or that it is slower to eat? At our daycare the staff once mentioned that children tend to prefer whatever they can finish quickly and get back to play. If it is the second, a rolled paratha with the dalma cooked down thicker as a filling might solve both. Could you ask him which of the two it is?

That's a good question, I hadn't separated the two. Will ask him this evening. My guess is a bit of both, they get a short break and he wants to run off, and the smell when he opens the box doesn't help 😅 Rolls with a drier filling sound worth a try.

Wraps. Same sabzi, rolled in a roti, foil around it. My 12 yr old calls it a wrap and is happy. It's literally a frankie 😂
