He shuffles around on his bottom and has no interest in crawling

Our son has found his own way of getting around: he sits up and scoots on his bottom, one hand pushing, surprisingly fast. At daycare the other babies his age are crawling and a couple are pulling up, and the teacher mentioned, kindly, that he 'prefers sitting'. His doctor wasn't worried at the last check-up and said some babies skip crawling. I believe her, mostly. But I'd love to hear from people whose babies did this. Did they go straight to walking, and when? ❤️

  • Our daughter was a bottom shuffler too, with one leg tucked under, and very quick on tiled floors. She never crawled on hands and knees at all. She pulled up on furniture a little later than the crawlers in her group and then walked within a few weeks of that. Is he pulling up on anything yet, or still happy sitting?

We saw the same with our daughter, a long time ago now. She shuffled until she walked. Your doctor has seen him and nothing you describe worried her, so I would go with that. The one thing I'd add from home: give him plenty of floor time and sturdy things to pull up on, rather than trying to teach him to crawl.

Ours did this. Walked at 15 months. Wore out every pair of shorts first 😂

My daughter crawled, so I can't speak to shuffling, but what I remember most is the comparing at daycare. Every week some baby was doing something ours wasn't. They all ended up walking within a few months of each other, and nobody asks about it now.
