Grandmother has stopped the girls' mangoes because of 'heat'. Is that a thing?

banyan_diary_7190

My mother is staying with us for a few weeks. The girls have been eating mango every day, and the older one would live on it if we let her. After a small rash came up on the younger one's cheek, Nanamma decided mangoes cause body heat and stopped them completely. I grew up hearing the same thing and don't know what to believe now. Is there a real reason to limit mangoes for small children, or is it fine in normal amounts? The rash was gone in a day.

We hear the same at home about mango and heat. When I asked our paediatrician, her view was that a mango or two a day is fine for most children, and a rash around the mouth is often the skin reacting to the juice rather than anything from inside. I'd mention the rash to your own doctor, but I wouldn't stop mangoes altogether on that alone.
