Granddaughter is 6 and still carries her baby blanket everywhere at our house

A small pink blanket from when she was born. At home with her parents it stays on her bed. When she stays with us it comes to the dining table, the balcony, my car and the vegetable market. Last week it went into the temple. Her parents say leave it. Some relatives say she is too big now and children will tease her once school is properly going. I'd hate for her to be made to feel small over a blanket. Should I say anything, or is this a grandparents' house thing that will pass?

Our son carried a small towel everywhere until he was nearly seven, mostly at his grandparents' place. We never made a rule about it. It went from all day to bedtime only to a drawer over about a year, without anyone saying anything. If she leaves it on her bed at home, she already knows where it belongs. At your house it may simply be how she settles in. Would she accept something like 'the blanket waits in the car' for outings?

Cloth rabbit in our case, same pattern. One addition: the teasing, when it came, was about the rabbit going to school, not about her having one. Keeping it out of school was enough.

Taking notes. Our boy is 8 months and will only sleep with one particular muslin. We bought two more of the same and he can tell the difference. No idea how.

Thank you, this is reassuring. 'Waits in the car' she might accept, she likes having a job for it. I will try it this Sunday at the market and report back.
