Granddaughter, 4, has started telling small lies. Very obvious ones

willow_moon_5807

She is with me on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Last week the biscuit tin was empty and she told me with a straight face that the pigeon took them. Crumbs all over her frock. Today she informed me that her mummy allows two hours of cartoons. Her parents find it funny. I laughed also, the pigeon was a good story. But should I be saying something at this age, or is this just how they learn to imagine things?

the pigeon is excellent. our older one blamed everything on 'the other baby' for a year, long before there was another baby. we mostly said 'hmm, i wonder' and let the crumbs speak. the cartoon one i'd check with her parents though. that's a rules lie, not a story lie

Rules lie and story lie. I like that. I will check with her mother in the morning. I suspect it is one hour.

At four ours had a whole series of these, all about who started it. The thing that helped was to stop asking when we could already see the answer. 'Did you eat the biscuits?' just invites the pigeon. 'I see you ate the biscuits, next time ask me' leaves nothing to invent 😄

Good advice, and harder than it sounds for me, because I enjoy the story. Thursday I will try it.
