Every evening around 6, our son cries for an hour and nothing we try changes it

mango_gecko_4770

Same time every day, give or take ten minutes. He's fed, changed, the room is cool, and our paediatrician has seen him and says he's fine, some babies just do this. We've tried walking, rocking, the bath early, the bath late, white noise. Sometimes one works for a day and then it doesn't. For those whose babies had an evening crying spell: how long did it go on, and what did you do with that hour apart from survive it?

Our second did this for about two months. You could set a clock by it. What helped us was doing less rather than more: dim lights, one person holding her, no passing her around the room to whoever had a new idea. It stopped as suddenly as it started.

could it be the handover? our little one went through a phase of crying when the nanny left in the evenings. took a few weeks to settle

Should have said, it starts while our caregiver is still here. She leaves at 7. So probably not that. Though she does say he's calmer with her than with us in that hour, which is great for my ego 😅

My son had an evening crying hour as a baby; my daughter never did. Walking him up and down the balcony was the only thing that seemed to work, and I'm not sure it did more than make us feel useful. If your doctor is happy, I would mainly make sure you and your partner take turns, so one of you gets that hour off.
