Does The Good Shepherd School let nursery children start with shorter days?

peach_trail_4294

We're looking at The Good Shepherd School in Secunderabad for nursery next June. Our son is 3 and goes to a small playschool now. He took months to settle there, and he still can't really tell me what upsets him. Some days it's 'the bell was loud', some days it's 'nothing'. So the first weeks at a bigger school matter to me more than most things in the brochure. If your child is in their nursery or LKG classes now, or was recently: was there a phased start, like shorter hours for the first week or two? Were parents allowed to stay for a bit? Or is it straight into the full day?

my son was never there so can't say for this school. but ask on the visit, and also ask a parent at the gate at dismissal time. the two answers may differ. most places i know did a few short days in june, how strictly depended on the teacher

Asking a parent at the gate is such a good tip. When my son started at his school the official line was 'a week of short days', but in practice his teacher let a few of the anxious ones go home early for almost three weeks. You only hear that kind of thing from other parents ❤️

That matches what happened with my son, only the other way round. His school advertised a phased start, but the short days ran from 9 to 11, which meant one of us had to stay in the area for two hours every day for a fortnight. Worth asking what the phased start requires from parents, not just whether it exists.

I would add one question: whether the short days apply only to new admissions or to the whole class. At my daughter's school it applied to everyone, so the first two weeks were short even for children who had been there the year before. That changes how much leave you need to plan.
