Does the fifth subject in class 11 matter for CUET, or only for the school timetable?

pebble_puzzle_8652

Our daughter's class 10 results should be out any day, and her school wants class 11 subject choices by the end of the month. She is fairly settled on science with maths. The open question is the fifth subject: computer science, psychology or physical education. She likes psychology most. I teach at a university and I still can't give her a clear answer on whether that choice limits anything when she applies through CUET in two years. Has anyone been through this recently?

from what i've read, cuet subjects go by what you take in class 12, not 11. so it matters only if she keeps it. most schools don't let you change much after 11 though, so in practice it's the same thing

Broadly right. Do check the specific universities she might apply to, though. Some programmes want particular class 12 subjects, and 'any subject' sometimes has small print. From the university side, as far as I've seen, the fifth subject rarely decides anything, but it can rule things out. Psychology is unlikely to be the one that does 🤷

One practical thing: ask how many students the school needs before it runs psychology at all. A friend's son picked it and the school dropped it in July because only six signed up. He had to switch to PE three weeks into term.
