Daycare says 'teething' every time he's cranky. Is that just the default answer?

Fussy at drop-off: teething. Didn't nap: teething. Ate half his lunch: teething. He has had the same four teeth for two months and nothing new is visible. I'm not saying they're wrong. I'm asking whether anyone has got a more specific answer out of their daycare, and what you asked to get it.

ask them what they saw, not what they think caused it. 'he cried for 20 minutes after you left and refused the banana' is useful. 'teething' is a guess

This worked for us with our younger one's daycare. We asked for one line on what happened instead of the reason. Within a week the notes became much more useful, and 'teething' quietly disappeared 🙂

Our daughter has not started daycare, so I cannot compare. I would only note that 'teething' is also the answer every relative gives us, so it may simply be the explanation everyone reaches for when a baby is unhappy.

Mine is two months old, has no teeth anywhere near coming, and my family has blamed teething twice already. It's the answer when nobody knows.

the four teeth for two months detail is what i'd put to them. ask which tooth. watch the pause

Asked at pickup this evening. The answer was 'molars, coming inside'. I'll accept that one, since he has been chewing his fist all week.
