Daycare is 600 m from home, and every pickup she refuses to leave

Pickup is my job. Till last month she came running the moment I reached the door. Now she sees me, turns round and goes back to the sandpit. If I lift her she arches her back and screams all the way to the gate, while the other parents give me sympathetic looks. Not complaining exactly, it means she likes it there. But on my on-call days I don't have twenty minutes for negotiations. Anyone found a middle ground?

We had this. What worked was a fixed goodbye: she got to say bye to one thing, the swing, and then we left. A week of protest and then that was simply how it went. It also helped to tell her at the door, before she'd started playing again, what the goodbye would be.

A fixed goodbye is a good idea, she does better when she knows what's coming. Does that work at just past one though? I don't think she follows much of what I say yet.

      Replying to @peach_rain_3138

She follows more than you think. Say it the same way every day, same words, same spot. At that age it's the routine they understand, not the sentence. Our son's ammamma picked him up at that age and said 'jaaru ki taata cheppu, inti ki veldam' every single day. By the end he was waving to the slide on his own 🙂
