Daughter's third-year internship offer is unpaid, three days a week, and calls it 'exposure'
Daughter starts third year next month. A startup has offered her an internship alongside classes: three days a week, about an hour each way, 'certificate on completion'. The offer letter says 'exposure' twice and does not mention a stipend anywhere. She is thrilled, and she will handle her own college schedule, as she always has. I've spent thirty years in tech. We paid our interns, even small amounts. But hiring has changed and I'm not the one doing it now. Is unpaid normal now for undergraduate internships? And does a few months at a small startup count for anything at placement time, or is it the college's own internship that recruiters look at?
