Caregiver going home for the Dasara break and the lab doesn't close

indigo_paper_1624

Our caregiver is going to her village for Bathukamma and Dasara, about ten days. Completely fair, she does it every year. The family backup we usually lean on can only manage a couple of days this time. My son is 2. Reports don't stop for festivals and there's no second adult at home to split days with. Leave covers maybe four days. What have others done for the rest?

We had a stretch like this when our son was smaller, and splitting it in three is what got us through. First, ask a nearby family member for a few specific days rather than the whole stretch; people say yes more easily to a fixed Tuesday and Wednesday. Second, keep your own leave for the days around the festival itself, when backup is hardest to find. Third, some daycares accept short-term children during holiday periods if there's a seat. It's worth calling two or three near Madhapur this week rather than next. It's never seamless, but ten days broken into pieces is manageable.

when our daycare shut for a week we tried a short-term one nearby. a 2 yr old needed the first three days just to settle so a week barely helped and she was miserable for it. the family days were easier on everyone. depends on the kid though
