Both of us working from home, both kids home till June. What happens after 4 pm in your house?

Mornings are fine. They have a swimming batch till 10, then lunch, reading and some screen time while we're in meetings. The problem is 4 pm onwards. They're bored, they fight, and that's exactly when both our calendars fill up. We alternate who's on duty with them, but my evening production calls make that lopsided. What do you do with that late-afternoon stretch, short of signing them up for yet another class?

I teach primary, and children that age can do a fair bit on their own if the task is concrete. 'Plan tonight's dinner and set the table' works far better than 'go and read'. Give the 4 pm slot a standing job instead of a free hour. It won't stop the fighting, but it moves it to the kitchen.
