Back from site visits covered in dust and paint smell. Change before I pick up the baby?

I run an interiors business, so most days I'm at a site or two. Sanding, putty, paint, sometimes all at once. By evening my clothes smell of it and there's fine dust on everything. Our son is 7 months and I do the daycare pickup three days a week. Right now I just wash my hands and go. My partner thinks I should change my shirt in the car at least. Am I overthinking it, or is my partner right?

when our son was small i was doing a lot of plant and site visits. kept a spare top and a towel in the car and changed before going in. it started as caution and turned into a little ritual. he'd wait at the door for 'clean amma' before he'd let me pick him up
