Same age here, and the same request from my daughter. We told her the phone is for travel days and otherwise stays on the charger in the hall. She grumbles but it has held for four months.

It was a while ago for me, but the conversation with my mother-in-law went much better when it was about what the doctor said at the last visit rather than what I wanted. If a check-up is coming, ask about feed spacing there and bring that answer home. It takes it out of the her-versus-the-nanny space.
