The child wants the recipe but not the result

Our preschooler asked to help stir a simple batter, enjoyed every second and then refused to taste the finished food. The cooking seems to be the interesting part. Would you just count that as a good activity and stop making tasting the prize?

Absolutely. Helping cook and choosing to eat are separate experiences.

I can enjoy the stirring with them without expecting a result at the table.

Next time you could let the child pick which step to do, without connecting it to tasting.
