One travelling parent, one very attached toddler

My partner will be away for a few evenings and our little boy expects both of us at bedtime. I will be doing the usual dinner and sleep stretch alone while still working. We can arrange help in the daytime; it is the moment after dinner I am thinking about. How did your little ones manage a temporary change like this?

For us the bedtime sequence mattered more than who did the last part. Same book, same light, then cuddles.

We can keep the book. My partner usually does the second half, so I was planning to change everything.

If help is possible, use it before the evening gets chaotic, not only when you are completely tired.

I can ask my sister to help with dinner prep, which should make the later stretch easier.

Our toddler wanted an extra lap around the house on the first two nights. It was not an elegant solution, but we survived.

I would not promise the child a specific video call time if travel makes that unpredictable.
