my amma wants him napping in a saree thottil. the cot we bought is basically storage now

amma came to stay for a few weeks and the first thing she did was tie a saree cradle to the old hook in the spare room. he naps in it for two hours straight. in the cot he manages forty minutes on a good day. i'm not against it, apparently it's how i slept. i just keep looking at the hook and the knot. and i wonder what happens when she goes back and he expects to be swung to sleep every single time. anyone else with a thottil and a cot in the same house? did the baby go back to the cot later, or did you just keep the thottil going

  • Our 5 month old had one at my in-laws' for a month. Coming back to the cot took about a week of short, bad naps and then he was fine. I'd get someone handy to check the hook and the knot properly, just for peace of mind.

    • Who tied the knot, and how much weight has that hook held before? That's the only real question. Ours used one till nearly a year. The swinging stopped when she started trying to climb out.

From my own experience only: our son slept in a cradle at his grandmother's and in a cot at home, and he managed both. Babies seem to tolerate two arrangements in two places better than we expect. The harder adjustment was ours, when the person who did the swinging went home.
