Is moving closer to a school worth it before admission is confirmed — looking for recent parent experiences

We are considering a move within Kolkata mainly for schools, but leases and admission timelines do not line up neatly. Has anyone moved first and then applied, or secured admission before changing locality? I am trying to understand the least risky order. I am trying to decide this week, so practical details would help more than general pros and cons.
