I look at bacteria for a living and my 1 year old eats sand

Society sandpit, every evening. The caregiver has given up stopping him, and on weekends so have I. He grabs a fistful, looks right at you, eats it. My professional brain says it's mostly fine. My parent brain watches every handful. Anyone else's toddler do this, and when did it stop? 🤷

mine ate soil from the balcony pots at that age. i remember being horrified and then not. he's 14 and eats like a normal person now, mostly

with ours it was the potted plants. now at 15 she won't touch soil at all. probably no connection

      Replying to @velvet_gecko_5468

funny how that goes. maybe he'll be the one who won't go near a sandpit at 15

What does 'mostly fine' mean in your field? Genuinely asking. Our son did this and the paediatrician said wash his hands after and stop worrying, but never said why.

Both my boys did this, the younger one more. Patti used to say a little mann never hurt anyone 😊 It stopped around the time they started talking properly, I think, because talking was more fun than chewing.

your patti and my lab agree, roughly. talking can't come soon enough
