Grandparents speak Telugu but my preschooler answers in English

teal_compass_2155

Our preschooler understands what her grandparents say at home, yet more and more of her answers are in English. The grandparents are trying hard not to make it a correction every time. I want both sides to enjoy talking without turning a family conversation into a language lesson. Has anyone found little things that help naturally?

Songs with grandparents are easier for ours than direct questions about the day.

My son switches languages depending on who he is speaking to. We let the conversation flow rather than asking him to repeat each sentence.
