Five school visits in a month and my 4 year old now cries before each one

We have taken our younger son to five schools since mid September. The last two mornings he started crying in the car as soon as he understood where we were going. He thinks each one is where he is being left. I am planning to stop taking him and do the visits ourselves until we are down to two. Has anyone done it this way? Did the school mind not meeting the child early on?
