Brushing a baby's teeth is a two-adult job in our house

ochre_sketch_5226

He has six teeth now and daycare asked us to start brushing twice a day with a soft brush. Lovely in theory. In practice my partner holds him, I go in with the brush, and he clamps his mouth shut and turns his head like we're trying to poison him. Then he grabs the brush and chews it happily for five minutes. Does the chewing count for anything? How did you make this less of a wrestling match? ❤

My son fought it too. In the end I let him brush my teeth first, then did his while he was still pleased with himself. It took perhaps two weeks to become routine. The chewing gets him used to the brush, but it does not clean much.

Where did daycare get twice a day at this age from? Not saying it's wrong, just curious whether it came from a dentist or a poster on their wall. We do once a day at night and our son's dentist was fine with that.
