  • 0on Is a playpen worth it for a 1 year old, or just a cage he'll scream in?

Mine are 15 and 11, so this is a long way back, but with my daughter we had a play yard in the living room and it worked best for short planned stretches rather than emergencies. If she only went in when I was rushed, she seemed to sense it. Ten minutes in there at the same time each evening, with me close by, made it familiar for the times I really needed it.

  • 2on 14 year old wants to run a 10K in December. She has never run more than the school track

My son's school in the hills has them running cross-country from class 6, so I have seen how they build it up: run-walk for the first month, three days a week, never two days in a row. By the end of term the boys who started from nothing were doing 8 km. Four months is plenty if she doesn't try the full distance in the first fortnight. Do get her shoes properly fitted. That is where the injuries came from in his batch.

  • 3on Client wants me on-site three days a week from September. Is a 9 to 6 preschool day too long at 4?

We had a driver bring our daughter home at 12.30 and someone with her at home until we got back. Expensive, but she had her nap in her own bed and that mattered more to me than the cost. If the budget allows, look at a pickup plus a few hours of help instead of extending school.
