Olympiad preparation without turning weekends into another school day

My child enjoys maths and wants to try an Olympiad, but I do not want to pile on worksheets just for a certificate. How are parents keeping preparation light and still meaningful? Any resources or routines that do not become a second syllabus?

If you take a tutor, sit in on one early session. The way they respond to a wrong answer tells you a lot.

Could you share what you would do differently if you were starting again? The biggest gain was less conflict at home, not just better marks. We made the change gradually rather than all at once.
